The March Against Monsanto Is Tomorrow!

Over 3 million people from over 300 cities are gathering in solidarity to show their support for organic food and against monsantos grip hold over the food supply. All food used to be organic and that's what the majority of the public wants. The most common myth is that we are short of food and we must use these new genetically modified foods to meet our needs. This is so far from the truth it's actually not funny. We have and produce way more than enough. What we waste every year in the U.S. could feed entire countries. But if you tell anyone we should get rid of GMOs that's one of the first things they will say to you, and it's only because of their blind faith in the media. Well, now that government and mainstream media's reputation is at an all time low, we are happy that people are finally looking to us "tin hat conspiracy" theorists for answers on what's going to happen next. Well, its great news... Because of the internet and social media we have networked and swapped information to the point where a large majority of us have raised our awareness on a vast amount of subjects including the dangers of GMOs. The list is endless and you should know them by now. But just in case you don't, we can run by a few of them quickly before giving you the links to the march against monsanto in your area.

Some reasons people are marching against monsanto:

  • Thousands of farmers are killing themselves after their land has been ruined and crippled with debt after growing GMOs
  • Bee die offs, butterfly die-offs insect die offs, even animal die offs from pesticides and herbicides used for growing gm and ge crops.
  • Cross contamination is as unpredictable as the wind. If another seed blows into your field and accidentally grows a patented plant you can get sued and lose everything.
  • The GMO seeds are called terminators and it's a control feature so that farmers can't collect their own seed and regrow next year. They must under the new system buy more seeds.
  • No long term tests were carried out before GMOs and GE foods were forced into the food system.
  • Now that long term tests are being carried out, the results are horrifying and swept under the carpet.
  • Studies show that not only is it the pesticides that cause damage but the GM food as well. Organ damage etc.
  • The chemicals needed to grow these crops poison our soil, water and air substantially.
  • The chemicals used to grow GM crops also need to increasingly get more potent to do the same job as the plants mutate, as well as the surrounding weeds, bugs, and wild-life. Referred to as super-bugs, super weeds, mutated animals etc.

The list could go on and we encourage you to research more.

Here is how to get involved in the March:

Facebook might be censoring our pages because of our support for the March Against Monsanto, October 12th... The media has to follow strict orders to blackout this march like they did last time. Only after the march will they tell you about it and they will shun them as "freaks" and "hipsters" etc... We are glad if you are reading this now, because it means our message has got out there some how. Upcoming March Against Monsanto to take place October 12

(http://www.march-against-monsanto.com/)Millions of activists are preparing for another March Against Monsanto to take place on October 12. Marches will be held in over 400 cities around the world and are currently scheduled in 47 U.S. states. The event will protest the controversial use of genetically modified organisms and the dangerous heavy use of pesticides in our food supply.

GMOs have never been properly tested for long-term safety. The only published study that examined the long-term effects of eating genetically modified corn produced horrifying effects in rats, but it was rejected by Monsanto and the general scientific community. The revolving door between government and biotech companies like Monsanto basically allows it greater government influence than even citizens seem to have. The use of GMO crops leads to increased pesticide usage, destroys the soil and biodiversity and contributes to bee colony collapse. GMOs have been linked to adverse health effects such as organ damage, sterility, infant mortality, birth defects, auto-immune conditions, allergies and increased cancer risks. Monsanto's business practices are equally as evil, as they file lawsuits against any innocent farmer whose field was contaminated by their mutant seed. More than a quarter of a million Indian farmers have already committed suicide after the GMO crops they bought were a failure that left their families in poverty. 62 countries mandate GMO labeling, which Monsanto has spent millions of dollars opposing in the U.S. alone. They don't even want you to know that you are eating their poisons.

That is why activists continue to march against Monsanto. And that's why anyone concerned with their health, their children or the future of the world and sustainable agriculture should join in. Protestors will march in St. Louis, Monsanto's headquarters, at 1:00 pm. To find an event near you, visit docs.google.com. You can also visit the March Against Monsanto website or Facebook page for more information.

It is clear that government, food corporations, and industrial agriculture are not interested in informing the public about genetically modified food.  Even the ability to perform independent scientific research is stifled by these entities.
Image: www.nongmoproject.org

In the face of this we must rely on grassroots market power and the free transfer of knowledge that still exists. Thousands of smaller grocers exist across the country providing certified non-GMO alternatives and educating customers about GMOs.  They work with manufacturers and local producers to transition to non-GMO ingredients.

As a huge ballot initiative heats up in Washington state to label GMO food products, corporate powers are shoveling money into propaganda campaigns and the pockets of influential people.  But it may not be enough this time.  Awareness is expanding exponentially about the threats GMOs pose to our food system, public health, and the environment.

The Organic Consumers Association built a grassroots database, based on input from consumers and extensive interviews, of grocers committed to selling non-GMO products.  Support these grocers if you live in the area.  They are leaders on the front line.

Top 12 Right-to-Know Grocers

Top 12 Right-to-Know Grocers

It was a challenge to single out only 12 overall winners, when all 50 regional winners have such impressive policies and practices for educating customers about GMOs and providing non-GMO alternatives. The “Diligent Dozen” winning stores are those grocers who are leading the natural food industry by working with manufacturers and local producers to transition to non-GMO ingredients and by advocating for GMO labeling.
  • Berkshire Organics Market & Deli, Dalton, MAStore Logo
Berkshire Organics stocks roughly 3,000 mainly local and organic grocery items. The store requires signed affidavits verifying that manufactured product, ingredients, and feed used by livestock farmers are GMO-free. Store staff visit sustainable farms to verify acceptable farming practices.
  • Dad’s Organic Market, Saskatoon, SKStore Logo
Dad’s Organic Market created a No GMO policy one year ago, and communicates that policy to manufacturers and vendors. Dad’s requires GMO-free statements on manufacturers’ letterhead before the store will purchase products containing suspect ingredients. Buyers always push manufacturers to remove GMO ingredients from their products.
  • Good Earth Natural Foods, Fairfax, CAStore Logo
Good Earth Natural Foods is a Non-GMO Project supporting retailer. The store donated $25,000 to Prop 37, the largest donation of any grocer in the country.
  • Jimbo’s…Naturally! San Diego, CAStore Logo
Jimbo’s Naturally is one of the country’s pioneer GMO-Free grocer activists and organic advocates. The company has persuaded a number of manufacturers to remove suspect products from their foods, resulting in those companies either going organic or pursuing Non-GMO Project verification. Jimbo’s Naturally donated $10,000 to support Prop 37.
  • MOM’s Organic Market, Baltimore, MD & Washington, DCStore Logo
In July 2012, MOM’s began informing suppliers that they would no longer accept foods with high-risk GMO ingredients, and that products with ingredients that may contain GMOs had to be either certified organic or Non-GMO Project verified. MOM’s contributed $10,000 to Prop 37, and $5,000 to Yes on 522.
  • Native Sun Natural Foods Market, Jacksonville, FLStore Logo
Native Sun has five staff members dedicated to product research, who meet regularly to review new products and analyze the ingredients for possible GMOs. Researchers discuss inert ingredients and their sources, and keep an updated handbook listing ingredients that are allowed and those that are banned.
  • Natural Grocery Company, El Cerrito & Berkeley, CAStore Logo
The store established a policy about four years ago requiring buyers to inform manufacturers and vendors that they will purchase only organic products, except in cases where organic alternatives are not available. However, all non-organic products must be GMO-free and verified by the Non-GMO Project. The company donated over $3,200 to support Prop 37.
  • Nature’s Food Patch Market & Cafe, Clearwater, FLStore Logo
All products suspected of containing GMO ingredients are labeled with GMO tags. In addition to product tags, Nature’s Food Patch educates consumers and alerts them to GMOs via email updates, Facebook and the store’s website. The store also provides non-GMO pamphlets and packets of GMO information for customers who ask about GMOs.
  • Ocean Beach People’s Organic Food Co-Op, San Diego, CAStore Logo
Manufacturers are informed that all products purchased by the co-op need to be either organic or have an affidavit certifying that products are GMO-free. Products containing GMO ingredients are removed from the store. Products are either labeled organic, Non-GMO Project verified or have an affidavit certifying the product is GMO-free. Ocean Beach Peoples Organic Food Market donated $5,000 to support Prop 37, the California initiative to label GMOs.
  • Sundance Natural Foods, Eugene, ORStore Logo
Sundance practices and promotes the ethos of ‘Gatekeeping,’ believing that we hold a moral and practical duty to educate our community about all issues surrounding the responsible production and sustenance of local, national and global food markets and agriculture, and to protect our food supply from those who would compromise and destroy it for profit.
  • Terra Organica, Bellingham, WAStore Logo
Terra Organica is still refining its GMO tagging system. The store surveyed its customers about how to handle products that may contain GMOs, asking them which they preferred: No labels, label GMOs, or get rid of all GMO items. Customers overwhelmingly chose labels, which began appearing on Terra Organica’s shelves in March.
  • The Sunspot Natural Market, Kokomo, INStore Logo
The store contacts manufacturers who claim that their products are GMO-free, but do not have non GMO Project verification. Strong relationships have been built with brokers, reps and manufacturers to make sure that GMO products do not enter their store. Thousands of homemade shelf talkers pointing out non-GMO verified products are on display throughout the store.

Other grocers leading the way in providing non-GMO alternatives and informing customers can be found here in this regional list.

Monsanto's EPA Raises Allowable RoundUp Pollution Levels

Natural Cures Not Medicine on Facebook: www.facebook.com/naturalcuresnotmedicine

Image theorganicprepper.ca
Great news!  You no longer have to worry about excessive levels of glyphosate, the toxic chemical found in Monsanto’s Round-up pesticide, in your food or in the feed that livestock consumes.  Why not?  Well, the Environmental Deception Protection Agency has looked over the situation, and in their infinite wisdom, raised the safety threshold of glyphosate that is allowed to be in consumable goods.

The EPA’s change of heart means that the the allowed glyphosate level in animal feed will rise to 100 parts per million (ppm) and 40 ppm in oilseed crops.  Thankfully, there’s no need for us to worry because they’ve assured us that the new allowable levels are only “minimally toxic” to humans.

The EPA is the agency that is charged with protecting the air we breathe, the soil in which we grow our food and the water that we drink. Unfortunately the only responsibility they seem to take seriously is their commitment to furthering the agendas of big business.  This decision to allow more Roundup to drench the food supply comes immediately after two major, peer reviewed studies have proven that glyphosate is deadly.

The first study found that glyphosate increases the breast cancer cell proliferation in the parts-per-trillion range.

An alarming new study, accepted for publication in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology last month, indicates that glyphosate, the world’s most widely used herbicide due to its widespread use in genetically engineered agriculture, is capable of driving estrogen receptor mediated breast cancer cell proliferation within the infinitesimal parts per trillion concentration range.
The study, titled, “Glyphosate induces human breast cancer cells growth via estrogen receptors,” compared the effect of glyphosate on hormone-dependent and hormone-independent breast cancer cell lines, finding that glyphosate stimulates hormone-dependent cancer cell lines in what the study authors describe as “low and environmentally relevant concentrations.”(source)
Another study found that consumption of glyphosate causes intestinal and gut damage, which opens the door to numerous human diseases, such as diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, heart disease, obesity, autism, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s
However, another classification of allergy-type food is emerging and getting recognized for adverse effects on the human intestinal tract and gut. Those foods are genetically modified organisms known as GMOs or GEs. There is scientific research indicating intestinal damage from GMO food and the article “Glyphosate’s Suppression of Cytochrome P450 Enzymes and Amino Acid Biosynthesis by the Gut Microbiome: Pathways to Modern Disease” discusses how the inordinate amount of pesticides sprayed on GMOs leaves residues in GMO crops that, in turn, are being traced to modern diseases.  (source)

The Organic Consumers Association is very concerned.  They are behind a petition to lobby the EPA to lower the allowable glyphosate levels instead of raising them. (Find it HERE)  The OCA cites numerous reasons why the EPA’s current move is a deadly mistake:
Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide in the world.  According to the EPA, at least 208 million tons of Roundup were sprayed on GE crops, lawns and roadsides in the years 2006 and 2007. In 2007, as much as 185 million pounds of glyphosate was used by U.S. farmers, double the amount used just six years ago.
A 2009 study found that Americans use about 100 million pounds of glyphosate annually on their lawns and gardens. It’s safe to assume all these number are much higher now. Why? Because GE crops are now being invaded by new strains of herbicide-resistant “superweeds” requiring higher and higher doses of poison.
Beyond Pesticides has assembled extensive documentation of past research linking glyphosate to increased cancer risk, neurotoxicity and birth defects, as well as eye, skin, respiratory irritation, lung congestion, increased breathing rate, damage to the pancreas, kidney and testes.
Glyphosate also endangers the environment, destroys soil and plants, and is linked to a host of health hazards. The EPA’s decision to increase the allowed residue limits of glyphosate is out of date, dangerous to the health of people and the environment and scientifically unsupportable. (source)

So why would the EPA make this ruling?

Because instead of being an unbiased agency looking out for public interest, they are merely puppets for the biotech industry.  They spread disinformation from beneath a cloak of benevolence and authority.  They use the trust that people have put in them to deceive and manipulate the public in favor of big business.

Here are some examples of their incestuous partnerships:
The EPA has been accused of covering up crimes committed by public health enemy #1, Monsanto, as well as Dow Chemicals.  The EPA’s investigation proved that Monsanto knowingly tainted Lysol (used by moms everywhere to sanitize babies’ toys) with dioxin.  However, no criminal charges have been forthcoming as of this publication.
The EPA also quietly closed an investigation of Monsanto’s twisted cover-up in the Nitro, West Virginia herbicide plant accident that exposed hundreds of workers to deadly carcinogen dioxin, which can still be found in nearby streams and lakes. Despite the fact that this investigation simply disappeared, Monsanto agreed in February to pay $93 million dollars to residents of Nitro in order to settle a class action lawsuit.
The EPA has refused to ban a pesticide made by Dow Chemicals, the controversial 2,4-D, the same substance used in Agent Orange. This pesticide will be used on corn crops that have been genetically engineered to be resistant to the toxin.  Agent Orange causes cancer, hormone disruption, genetic mutations and neurotoxicity and will be soon be coming to a corn field near you.
The EPA has refused a petition to ban BPA in industry, citing a lack of scientific evidence of the negative effects of the chemical. BPA is commonly found tainting canned goods, especially soup, and bottled water that has been exposed to heat. (Author’s note:  It would probably be very expensive for industry to have to replace all those containers with BPA-free cans and bottles.) (source)
The EPA pulled an identical sleight of hand when radiation from the Fukushima disaster began to reach the United States in 2011.  They raised the acceptable levels of radiation, stopped measuring it, and even tried to convince us that a little radiation was actually good for us:
The EPA is right on top of things with their response, of course. First, they promptly closed down 8 of 18 radiation measuring stations in the hardest hit area, California.  Then, to further calm the good people of the nation, the EPA magically changed the numbers.  They’ve raised the amount of radiation that we can safely absorb and ingest.  It wouldn’t do for the large factory farms to be unable to sell their tainted produce or for the huge dairies to be stuck with all that radioactive milk.
The radiation in our food supply is of so little concern to the EPA that they’ve actually begun to tell us that a little bit of radiation is good for us. According to a report citing the EPA, a bit of radiation can prevent cancer, instead of causing it.
Since our minds can be at ease now, the EPA has decided that they are no longer planning to monitor the radiation levels in our food supply.  They will return to their previous practice of only monitoring random samples every three months.  Yep.  Really.  The Environmental Protection Agency of the United States is no longer monitoring radiation levels in our food and water supplies as of April 14th.  That will definitely keep them from getting those inconveniently high readings that might affect Big Agra’s prosperity.  (source)

The government’s consumer protection agencies are hopelessly corrupted.  The FDA, the EPA, and the USDA are all servants of Big Food, Big Pharma and Big Agri.  We are on our own.  The public outcry will be muffled in the mainstream media because, well, Big Food, Big Pharma, and Big Agri own them too – you need only look at the advertisers to see this.

Therefore, we have to resort to other means to spread the word. We have to be so loud and so adamant that even the sleepiest individual will have no option but to see what is going on.  So, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to “out” the EPA for this disastrous decision.

Don’t purchase processed foods or any foods that may contain GMOs, including factory farmed meats.  The animals are given GMO feed throughout the course of their entire lives

Please understand, the system is irrevocably corrupted. Only by shedding light on this corruption can we make a change.  People are being lulled into compliance, all the while, feeling that there are measures in place to ensure that what they consume from the grocery store is not poison.

Food safety should not be in the hands of the highest bidder.

5 Million Farmers Sue Monsanto for 7.7 Billion

Natural Cures Not Medicine on Facebook: www.facebook.com/naturalcuresnotmedicine

Launching a lawsuit against the very company that is responsible for a farmer suicide every 30 minutes, 5 million farmers are now suing Monsanto for as much as 6.2 billion euros (around 7.7 billion US dollars). The reason? As with many other cases, such as the ones that led certain farming regions to be known as the ‘suicide belt’, Monsanto has been reportedly taxing the farmers to financial shambles with ridiculous royalty charges. The farmers state that Monsanto has been unfairly gathering exorbitant profits each year on a global scale from “renewal” seed harvests, which are crops planted using seed from the previous year’s harvest.

The practice of using renewal seeds dates back to ancient times, but Monsanto seeks to collect massive royalties and put an end to the practice. Why? Because Monsanto owns the very patent to the genetically modified seed, and is charging the farmers not only for the original crops, but the later harvests as well. Eventually, the royalties compound and many farmers begin to struggle with even keeping their farm afloat. It is for this reason that India slammed Monsanto with groundbreaking ‘biopiracy’ charges in an effort to stop Monsanto from ‘patenting life’.

Jane Berwanger, a lawyer for the farmers who went on record regarding the case,
told the Associated Press:

“Monsanto gets paid when it sell the seeds. The law gives producers the right to multiply the seeds they buy and nowhere in the world is there a requirement to pay (again). Producers are in effect paying a private tax on production.”

The findings echo what thousands of farmers have experienced in particularly poor nations, where many of the farmers are unable to stand up to Monsanto. Back in 2008, the Daily Mail covered what is known as the ‘GM Genocide’, which is responsible for taking the lives of over 17,683 Indian farmers in 2009 alone. After finding that their harvests were failing and they started to enter economic turmoil, the farmers began ending their own lives — oftentimes drinking the very same insecticide that Monsanto provided them with.
As the information continues to surface on Monsanto’s crimes, further lawsuits will begin to take effect. After it was ousted in January that Monsanto was running illegal 'slave-like' working rings, more individuals became aware of just how seriously Monsanto seems to disregard their workers — so why would they care for the health of their consumers? In April, another group of farmers sued Monsanto for ‘knowingly poisoning’ workers and causing ‘devastating birth defects’.

Will endless lawsuits from millions of seriously affected individuals be the end of Monsanto?

Monsanto Officially Gives up on GMOs in Europe

Natural Cures Not Medicine on Facebook: www.facebook.com/naturalcuresnotmedicine

Monsanto, "the most evil company in the world", has officially given up on jamming it's GMO crops down the throats of unwilling Europeans. A Monsanto spokesman told the LA Times that GMO applications in Europe "have have been going nowhere fast for several years.”

The surprising yet very welcome news comes as fierce opposition from consumers and grass-roots activists across Europe have forced politicians to label and outright ban GMOs, while holding up Big Agra's new applications to produce frankencrops in the EU.

After the last round of worldwide March Against Monsanto protests, current and ongoing political activism surrounding the use of GM crops, the discovery of genetically contaminated wheat being exported globally from Oregon, and recent studies suggesting bees may be dying off due to Monsanto products; they are battered and bruised but still very much alive and well. Despite the latest backlash and revelations, Monsanto has posted huge quarterly profits and expect 20% revenue growth in fiscal year 2013.

So despite the massive opposition that Big Agra and the GMO industry faces, these companies are still making a killing off of the average consumer's health, the health of our environment, and the health of our bees. What can we do? Strike the root, hit them where it hurts: their bottom line.

Grow your own organic fruits vegetables and get as many people you know to do the same. See our recent article on easy ways to get started on an organic garden at home.

Get active. There's another March Against Monsanto protest coming up on October 12th in a city or town near you. Find one here: http://www.march-against-monsanto.com/

Spread awareness. If you are already awake to the health problems we face with GMOs and the crony policies of Monsanto, then do your part to tell your friends and family about them. Invite them over for an organic dinner and see if they can taste and feel the difference, you'll make a believer out of them in no time.

Help the less fortunate. In the US Monsanto and the entire GMO industry is subsidized by the government. Not only are there farm subsidies that favor the GM industry; food stamps, EBT, and other welfare programs that are meant to feed the poor also heavily favor Monsanto and their co-conspirators. Over 90% of baby formula available through welfare are have GMO ingredients. It's important for those who are able, to help end this GMO madness in the poor communities. One way we can help the less fortunate is by getting REAL food into urban areas. 10 Easy Steps For Starting A Community Garden

Natural Cures Not Medicine on Facebook: www.facebook.com/naturalcuresnotmedicine

After the latest and ongoing March Against Monsanto protests there has been an even greater awakening to the adverse effects of GMOs and pesticides on human and environmental health. Many people who would love to grow their own food are forced to shop at grocery stores due to the fact that they simply have no space to grow their own gardens. If you must buy your food from someone else, it's best to try to buy locally grown food to ensure that you can have a better idea of what's in it.

Here is a great source to find locally grown food near you: http://eatlocalgrown.com

There are a few option for people that would like to grow their own food but don't have the space: one is community gardening. The video posted below is a short introduction with the 10 basics steps it takes to get a community garden started in your neighborhood.

Over 400 Companies Who Aren’t Using GMOs In Their Products

Natural Cures Not Medicine on Facebook: www.facebook.com/naturalcuresnotmedicine

If you want to keep eating poison food, you can join the ‘scientists’ who keep spewing Monsanto-funded lies. They are telling us that genetically altered crops are good for us and the environment – that they are, in fact, a necessity to feed the world population. They say all of this, even though we seemed to feed the masses just fine without chemical quackery until about 60 years ago, all while dumping millions of tons of unaltered food right into the trash bin. If however, you believe GMOs are toxic, cancer-causing substances, you have another option.
We will always need to fight for what we believe in and ignite change through things like the March Against Monsanto and the upcoming Monsanto Video Revolt(which you should absolutely get involved in, as it’s super easy), but it’s also important to use your dollar not only to vote, but also to keep yourself healthy.
