GMO food linked to leukemia

Yet more bad news emerges about how genetically modified foods impact your health.

Time is running out to beat back GMOs!

Leukemia and anemia have been linked to GMO, or genetically modified organisms, in a new study.  The toxins from these genetically engineered food products are absorbed into the body and wreak havoc on blood cells, causing damage and possibly deadly diseases as well.  Belin Poletto Mezzomo, Anna Luisa Miranda-Vilela, and a team of researchers from the Department of Genetics and Morphology at the University of Brasilia conducted tests of GMOs on lab mice.  The study was later published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Hematology and Thromboembolic Diseases.  Toxins called Cry proteins were fed to the mice and immediately started to cause numerous blood abnormalities.  Anemia was caused at the lowest dose.  The introduction of these GMO toxins caused damage to bone marrow cells and and increased the number of leukocytes, a type of white blood cell associated with leukemia.  On the 7th day of testing, the blood abnormalities steadily worsened.
Monsanto Corp, the leading producer of GMO crops and seeds, caught wind of this study and has now even threatened legal action against those who published this particular study.
With the debate over the safety of genetically modified food products heating up, more and more data is showing that several serious and even deadly health conditions can result from consuming such items.  Other studies have shown that rats suffer from aggressive tumor development when fed GMO food and now Russia is banning imported food from the U.S. that is genetically modified.  Several countries across the world have banned or required labeling of edible products containing GMO ingredients, but the United States seems to be far behind on this topic.

What's really in your movie theater popcorn

The movie better be really good, because your body is going to pay double admission with all the nastiness in your beloved popcorn!

A staple of theater and moviefilm entertainment is good ole popcorn, often with some hot melted butter and salt to crunch and satisfy the enthralled viewer at the edge of their seat.  What else are you going to spill all over the people sitting next to you when those gotcha moments happen?  The answer:  ANYTHING BUT THIS GARBAGE!  Yup, Natural Cures Not Medicine is here to burst yet another one of your bubbles, this time, movie theater popcorn, and here's why:

Corn:  Already an unimpressive nutrient source, some figures suggest that over 80% of corn used in food products is genetically modified.  Many of these GMO, Genetically Modified Organism, strains of corn are altered so that they secrete their own nanopesticides.  GMO foods have been linked to scores of diseases and have been shown to cause aggressive tumor growth in lab rats.  In fact, the large scale honey bee die off that threatens world ecology is being linked to the introduction of genetically modified crops including most corn available in products on your local grocer's shelves.  Russia recently banned GMO corn from the U.S. due to concerns over health problems resulting from consuming it.

Hydrogenated oil:  Hydrogenated oil, or trans fats, greatly increase the instance if heart disease and raise the mortality rate of heart disease as well.  They also limit the production of enzymes that reduce inflammation in the body, which can lead to several deadly diseases including cancer.  Trans fats also negatively effect brain health as they block out DHA from being absorbed.  DHA is crucial for fetal brain development and prevents the onset of degenerative brain diseases.

Artificial butter flavor:  Diacetyl has been shown to cause necrosis of tissue in the respiratory system when the fumes are inhaled, and suggest is can cause respiratory disease.  Workers in microwave popcorn plants have reported serious illness due to exposure to these fumes and some have even died due to over exposure.

Health benefits of grapefruit juice

If you enjoy a fresh glass of grapefruit juice with breakfast, here is some good news!

Anticancer:  By blocking an enzyme that activates cancer causing chemicals, grapefruit juice can help prevent the development of lung cancer.  Grapefruit also has been shown to trigger apoptosis in colon cancer cells, which means the cells undergo a programmed cell death that does not cause damage to surrounding tissue like necrosis does.  Naringenin, another compound found in grapefruits, has been shown in studies to repair damaged DNA in the cells of the prostate gland.  Grapefruits contain limonoids, a group of phytonutrients that stimulate the liver to remove more toxins from the body.

Ph:  The juice of grapefruits, when digested, causes the body to become more alkaline.  Acidity in the body can be linked to several different illnesses including cancer, viruses, and bacterial infections.

Cholesterol:  A recent study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry concluded that people who consume grapefruit regularly show lower levels of harmful LDL cholesterol than those who do not.

Weight loss:  Grapefruits contain fiber which helps with regular digestion, helping with eight loss, and also contain no fat.  Fat burning enzymes are also found in this fruit which alter insulin levels in the body, therefore stimulating metabolic changes.

Kidneys:  D-limonene has been shown to prevent the formation of and also dissolve kidney stones.  Drinking grapefruit juice regularly helps to alkalize the urin, which lowers the chances of these stones forming and promotes overall kidney health.

Side effects of fluorescent light

Admit it, you don't like the cold, lifeless light that emits from these bulbs, but what you don't know may hurt you!

Better to vie for the warm welcoming glow of old school incandescent bulbs then to roll the dice with these bulbs that, if you dare break one, spew toxic matter all over the place.

-Headaches

-Migraines

-Eye discomfort

-Eye strain

-Enhanced tumor formation

-Contributes to agoraphobia

-Endocrine disruption

-Increased stress

At the end of the day, natural sunlight is the best option because it brings a full spectrum of light frequencies.  The unbalanced light emitted from fluorescent bulbs has been studied thoroughly and it is a wonder why many government officials are pushing for regulations requiring their use over incandescent bulbs.  In fact, incandescent bulbs emit a more balanced spectrum light that is more similar to sunlight then fluorescent bulbs.  It is no surprise that many people are willing to pay more in electric bills and replacement in order to avoid the cold, lifeless glow of these mercury laden lights.

Health benefits of raw cacao

Did you know that chocolate has an unprocessed, raw cousin that is actually very healthy?

Chocolate lovers, don't break out your party hats just yet!  There is a difference between cocoa and cacao, most notably the fact that one is heated and processed and the other is the raw form of the bean.  The fruit of a South American evergreen tree, cacao beans have been used throughout the continent and Central America for hundreds of years.  Though there is no doubting the popularity of chocolate, many people don't understand the true healing power of this literal superfood and the far reaching health benefits of the raw form.  When processed, cocoa is heated, turning the omega 6 fatty acids rancid, which in turn causes inflammation in the body after ingestion.  Also the antioxidant power is greatly diminished upon heating and nutrients depleted   Commonly, sugar and dairy is added to make chocolate candy products or drink mixes.  In fact, it is more difficult to find unprocessed cacao with nothing added than the sugar-laden and nutritionally inferior version.  Raw cacao, however, can be found at most health food stores and some large grocers in the form of raw beans, nibs, or powder.  So, why should you go through the extra trouble to get it raw?  Here is the reasoning.
As stated before, the nutrient profile of cacao is greatly diminished once it is heated, and what is worse, sugars are usually immediately added.  Sugar causes the body to become more acidic which increases the chances of developing a long list of illnesses including deadly conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.  Dairy is also added to much chocolate that can be found in stores and is known to cause inflammation and is not heart friendly.  Raw cacao, in contrast, has a massive payload of disease preventing compounds and even has been shown to fight depression.  In fact, cacao contains phenethylamine which is considered to be responsible for the emotion "love."  Zinc, iron, protein and calcium add to the nutritional strength of this superfood.  Strangely enough, a Dutch study on chocolate showed that even people who regularly ate processed chocolates had lower instances of every major disease than those who ate little to none.  The study concluded that there is no "upper limit" for chocolate consumption and even claimed that the more chocolate you eat, the healthier you will be and longer you will live.  So, if the processed and inferior version of this superfood shows so much promise, wait and see what raw cacao can do for your health.
Another study performed in South America observed two similar tribes living in the dense rain forest.  One tribe consumed a raw cacao drink daily and the other tribe did not have that food source available in their diet.  The tribe that consumed cacao regularly, again, had lower disease rates and longer lifespans.  Yoga instructors are even beginning to incorporate chocolate into their routines for its known effect of relaxing muscles while sharpening mental focus.  Still not convinced?  A French woman who is documented to have lived longer than any other human in history, claimed to have ate over 2 pounds of chocolate weekly, and the second oldest person consumed chocolate gratuitously as well.  As soon as you are done reading this article, grab your keys, drive to the health food store, buy some raw cacao, and start improving your quality of life now!
