  1. Blue-Diamond is a part of the Non-GMO project as well I believe. The NON-GMO verified label is on their almond breeze almond milks

    1. Do some research on Blue-Diamond...their almond milk contains carrageenan, bad stuff. Also all almonds from California, even those that claim to be or are labeled raw are actually required by law to be pasteurized. Blue Diamond chooses to use chemicals instead of steam in this process when doing this. Of course they claim its a safe practice???

    2. YA DONT DRINK THAT STUFF BAD NEWS! And while on the subject, look at all the milk alternatives =( I give them all an F for FAIL. They all contain synthetic vit a palminate and other random synthetic forms of vitamins, carrageenan ect. I cant wait for someone to actually come out with a organic milk alternative without all the additives and junk!

      Delete
    3. I avoid all processed milk alternatives and just make my own hemp milk. It's easy and no straining like with almond milk! Works great in recipes as well. 1/2 cup hemp seeds + 2 cups water. Blend. Enjoy! You can adjust the amount of hemp seeds to your own taste.

    4. Wish we could make our own almond milk but cost is a factor. We at least use WF brand bc it doesn't contain carageenan although I know there are other less than ideal ingredients in there. Very uncool that that's the best (and affordable) option. :'(

    5. What is a good brand of Almond milk? I've been using Blue Diamond for yrs but will stop now!
      Help! Suggestions appreciated!

    6. What is a safe brand of Almond milk? I will stop buying Blue Diamond but HELP! I'm lactose intolerant and I love Almond milk. Too expensive to make. Suggestions appreciated.

    7. SILK PURE ALMOND MILK NON HMO

      Delete
    8. I will not buy Silk products for the following reasons:
In 2009 the Organic Consumers Association (OCA) called for a boycott of Silk brand products. The OCA reported that a portion of the soy beans used in Silk are sourced from countries with unacceptable labor and certification standards including Brazil and China. The OCA has called for boycotts of Horizon Organic brand milk, as well as other subsidiaries of Silk's distributor Dean Foods.[4] In the fall of 2009 the Pioneer Press reported that the Cornucopia Institute had made complaints to the U.S. Department of Agriculture accusing Silk producer Dean Foods and its WhiteWave Foods division, of shifting their products away from organics without properly notifying retailers or consumers.[5][6] According to the Star Telegram and other news sources, Silk brand soy milk was made using organic soybeans until early 2009 when Dean Foods switched to conventional soybeans while maintaining the same UPC barcodes and prices on the Silk products while replacing the word “organic” with “natural” on the Silk product packaging.[7][dead link]
In 2011, a class action suit was brought against Deans Foods over health claims made on the packaging of Horizon Organic Milk.[22] In 2012, Dean Foods contributed $253,950 to fund opposition to California's ballot Proposition 37 which would require mandatory labeling of foods containing genetically modified ingredients.[23][24]

  2. you might want to do some research on Eden foods before recommending the, they may be GMO free - but they are hate-ful

    1. Eden Foods is not hateful. They are fighting the unjust HHS mandate of Obamcare that forces companies whose owners and religious organizations to go against their aconscience and oay for drugs that are against the religious beliefs. Next time I shopping I will support Eden. I am prolife and am against GMOs. Win win for me. I am rather peaceful not hateful. So much for "tolerance "

      Delete
    2. Hateful for fighting to keep the conscience protection that obamcare is and denying them. Please do your research, look up hate in the dictionary. Totally buying eden next shopping trip.BTW the Monsanto protection act was signed by the Obama Administration. Unbelievable, I guess you can have your unhatful GMOs. And th is tolerance? How silly.

  7. I would add Nutiva to the list -- from naturalnews.com:
"Besides Nature's Path, those who have contributed in support of Proposition 37 include venerable organic manufacturers such as Dr. Bronner's, Nutiva and Lundberg rice. These companies are all independently-owned businesses that avoid GMOs and are committed to supporting organic agriculture.
Food companies are required by law to label 'contains peanuts' if included in their product. People deserve the same for GMOs. Our customers want to know if any product contains GMOs," says John Roulac, founder and CEO of Nutiva, an organic food company."

    1. Silver Hills Bakery is GMO free & Organic. They sell breads, but maybe you could try contacting them for baking supply resources. I met and talked with a representative of their company just yesterday and if their customer service is anything like his... they will go out of their way to help you.

  14. Hain Celestial US is 99% GMO-free and supports labeling GMOs. Applegate is using GMOs for feed in their natural products (no GMOs in their organic) but there is a rumor they are working to be 100% GMO-free and did support labeling in California in 2012. I am not sure about Bragg's but many of their products are labeled GMO-free so I would contact them on individual products. Food Should Taste Good says they are non-GMO but they were recently acquired by General Mills and their CEO is strongly against labeling.

  18. I have never seen or heard of the brands that are supposed to be good, except for Annies. I bought their mac'n'cheese, even though I don't much like it, but 'honey' still prefers Kraft! Ugh!

Does anyone know if the Amish use GMOs or pesticides like Roundup, because we have a market full of them, including butchers, cheese and eggs, breads and pies too, nearby.
We make our own bread and pizzas etc. and now I wonder about the contents in the flour.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In my area, the Amish are most often all about inexpensive and efficient. They shop at Walmart and don't give much thought to the healthfulness of processed food.

It would be extremely unusual for an Amish business to use organics in their baked goods here. And their flour and bulk products are likely to be the cheapest, not any special varieties or growing process.

Just like the English, each Amish farm is unique. You'd have to ask each one what their policy is.

    1. Make your own - super easy - For example - buy organic zucchini, slice it, steam it, put it in the food processor or through a food mill to puree, and serve. You can also freeze it in 1/4 cup servings and let it thaw...easy peasy. do veggies first, then fruits (just my opinion) You do NOT need any fancy "baby" equipment - a simple "bullet" type blender would probably work too. I made everything, even meat purree - get organic mean/chicken, whatever, stew it until soft, puree, and serve.

  44. This is a very true point, and one I have been passionate about. I changed my dogs over to a raw meat blend of beef, elk, bison, and lamb that is made by our local Butcher. The meat is all local, organic. I will have to dig deeper to be sure it is non-GMO too. But my pets have thrived since going on it. I cook it a bit for the dogs, but the cats prefer it raw. I also dehydrate it into snacks. The cost is $1.25/pound, which beats any commercial brand dog food I have found... and I have researched many!

  46. Not only do you have to watch out for eating GMO crops, but I was just made aware a few weeks ago that even non-GMO plants (such as wheat, beans, etc) are doused with glyphosate (Roundup) to kill it and all the weeds around it before harvesting. This residue must get into the harvested part because the foods harvested are allowed to have so many parts of residue mg/kg.... and they are looking to UP that amount because of the emergence of glyphosate resistant weeds. So, to me, buying non-GMO could be just as harmful. Certified organic is the only way to make sure you are not getting Roundup residue, nor GMO, in your foods.
